There can be many reasons for problems accessing the website, and many of those may be out of our control if there is a wide-area Internet outage, or perhaps a Domain Name Server was hacked, etc. In such cases you will have to wait until the Internet is repaired.
There is one thing you can do on your side that in many cases will fix the problem, and that is clearing your browser cache. Cache is pages that your browser saves, and when you access a site it checks to see if anything on the site has been changed; if not, you get the cached page.
Sometimes this process breaks down for any number of reasons and you get stuck on a cached page that will not update. The solution is to clear your cache by following the steps below.
You will ultimately be asked to close your browser in step (3), now would be a good time to open each tab in the browser window and close out whatever else you were doing in your browser by closing the tab. A good tab to start with is the OLM website tab. Sometimes, but not always, closing the tab and reopening it is sufficient to clear the problem. If not, continue to close all your tabs.
The steps to clear cache can differ from browser to browser. If you search the Internet for "Clear Cache in {Chrome | Edge | Safari | Firefox | etc}", you will find instructions. For Chrome you would do the following:
Click the 3 vertical ellipsis in the upper right hand corner of your Chrome window.
Select More Tools in the drop down box.
Select “Clear Browsing Data…” in the More Tools dropdown.
A dialog box should appear where you can choose Basic and Advanced options allowing you what to clear. Minimally, you want to clear “Cached Images and Files”. You can also select how far back to clear; minimally you will want to pick a time period before the time when you opened the OLM Website.
Consider doing more! The more content you allow to accumulate in your browser cache, the greater the security risk, and all the more of your personal information will be accessible if you are hacked. I typically take this opportunity to clear everything for all time. You are not required to do so, but your chances of success are greater if you do since we do not know what has gone wrong in cache; it could be an artifact from a totally unrelated web page at an unspecified time. The two main drawbacks will be that you will no longer have a webpage history to view, and if you store passwords (which you should never do), you will need to login again the next time you access that website.
Close your browser.
Reopen your browser and open the OLM website tab.
This should clear any browser problems. If it does not, there is not much more you can do and the problem is likely external. A good indication of that is if the OLM website does not open at all. In such cases you just have to wait it out until the external problem is fixed, you call your Internet provider, they should know of any outages. As a last resort, if you are able, you can reboot your system in case some errant network or internet information is being assigned to your login session.
